Founded in 1989 in Ronkonkoma, NY, AAC began by developing acoustic simulation tech that became foundational to its leadership in Undersea Warfare technology. Expansion in the late 1990s and early 2000s brought new engineering centers in Maryland and Pennsylvania. By the mid-200s, AAC was delivering scalable sonar systems to the U.S. Navy and co-developing the AN/SQQ-89(V) combat systems with Lockheed Martin.

In 2011, AAC became a strategic joint venture of Thales and Leonardo DRS. The company earned industry acclaim, including a Supplier of the Year award from Lockheed Martin (2015) and recognition at the Navy Employer Recognition Event (2016). In 2018, AAC made waves at the Navy’s Advanced Naval Technology exercise with its SAMDIS imaging sonar and ANGLER underwater weapon system. In 2019, as AAC approached its 30 th anniversary, the company continued scaling production to meet growing demand. In 2022, AAC became a fully owned , FOCI-mitigated Thales subsidiary, strengthening its engineering and industrial footprint across the U.S. The following year, in 2023, AAC expanded again with a new facility dedicated to the Constellation Class Frigate’s Variable Depth Sonar, reinforcing its tradition of delivering trusted, innovative solutions in undersea warfare.
